Ice Fishing Reports for Minnesota Fishing-Archive
I feel that having the possability to catch 13 and 14 inch crappies is well worth the trip. This is a onece and a life time experiance. You could get skunked but if you search for them and are moble you should be able to catch themm . I will be letting all the fish I catch go. So there will be a few extra for other fishermen.
Hey cookie you seem to be the one to talk to about upper red.We live 300 miles away was wondering if you could steer us in the right direction. Are they biting good enough to make the drive?
Cookie, I think you would be nutz if you move you house, just reading you fishing reports sounds like you have been doing really well. It just sounds like it is a hit and miss type of thing. I was just on another website and there was a guy on there that went out of Hudacs last night and fished from 4:30 to 7:00 and cought his 15 slabs. It sounds like the fish are starting to move back frome the west, and in time every spot will be a hot spot. And yours will just get hotter. Do you get a chance to fish the morning much, just out of curiosity i was just wondering if the morning was a better bite or the evening.
Last night was a slow bite, we fished from 5pm to 11pm and landed 12 croppies.I let a 11 inch crappie go and you would think I let a state record go the way my brother acted. I tkink I will let all crappies I catch go the rest of the time he is here. The wife landed a 11 # northern on here new zebco ultra lite.We were able to take pictures ,she played it for at least 5 min. what a blast. Will find out how some of the other fishermen did and let all know COOKIE PS. do I move my house today?
At first I thought the same thing, however I talked once again with a group of friends that fished Hennepin last night and they caught six walleyes. Out of the six walleyes four were caught between 2:30-4:00 am. The last I checked there was not a full moon last night. The four were caught on rattle reels and shiners. Good luck to all
I have never ice fished the red before and i was just wondering the best way to set up your lines and what to use for bait. Help would be highly appreciated.
hi all, a group of friends and i are heading up to brants on the 31st and mcquades on the 1st, anyone have and reports or tips please send me a note, good fishing everyone !!!
hello everyone, fished out of lybacks 19th- 22nd. fishing was slow for most part. started out in 23 feet caught alot of small perch with a (few) jumbos scattered in. then moved out to mud 30+ feet caught a few small perch had one hit on rattle that night no hook up though. moved next day shallow 17 feet did same on perch but caught 2 walleye 19",23" and one broke off.(Fat heads and plain hook) Nothing to bring home but had a great time. Good Luck Fishing
We have booked a house out of Brandts for the first time does anyone have any comment on their houses? Feedback would be appreciated.
I'm going up there this weekend. I read about some success on that side of the lake so I booked with them. When are you going? I'll post how we do on Sunday night
Hey, I'm comming up to Red Lake on Saturday with my dad. Kinda like a father son fishing trip, and we would like to know where the fish are biting and at what depths. If you could do that thanks and good luck fishing.

Is it true that twin pines houses r junk get back to me so i can book a different place if there that bad.
I mentioned to Darcy that we will be fishing the south end of the lake tomorrow. We will be going out of McQuoids in which I will hopefully be able to come back with some good news and Ideas. Our group however is not planning on being very mobile this time, in which I think may hurt our numbers. We will however be having an enormous amount of fun. I will let you know how we did and were they had us placed on the lake. Good luck to all
Hope to travel north to url this weekend sometime, have some friends that are taking up some sleepers for Sat. night. They think they know where to go, but I don't think any spot is a "gimmie"...I do know that an empty bucket makes for a long ride home.....JoJo
We are heading up to McQuids on Feb 7-9, does anybody have any info on the fishing near there. What to use, where, anything would be appreciated.
Putzky, I wouldn't count on a 2am bite this weekend. The full moon has passed man.

Cookie, thanks for trying to get the email through to me, if you get a chance before this weekend this email address will work, i dont know why the other address didnt work. We will be heading up there early sat morning and would greatly appreciate a tip on where to go to have a chance a few slabs of crappies. I don't expect a limit or anything because you can't make the fish bite. If you got a good spot for us to try let me know. This email should work. Thanks firstname.lastname@example.org

Weekly Report 1-23-03 The temperatures in the Brainerd Lakes Area were cold this last week. Not even the notorious Black Hole on 371 Bay of North Long lake could keep from freezing over. The temperature reached -15 degrees at my house on Wednesday night.
This week's cold weather also seemed to put a damper on the fishing as well. The crappie bite was slower than last week. The problem wasn't in finding the crappies. It was in trying to get them to bite once you did. There's nothing more frustrating then seeing a nice fish on your electronics, have it swim up to your bait, look at it, and then swim away. The best crappie bets are still Upper Gull, Gladstone, North Long, Gull, and Round lake. The bulk of the fish are still suspended near shore points, located close to deep water. You'll catch more crappies right now with smaller jigs and wax worms than the traditional jig and minnow combo. With the cold weather, the crappies just seem to get picky. This should improve once the weather starts to stabilize.
The walleye action has also slowed in the Brainerd Lakes Area this last week. Gull, North Long, Pelican and Lake Edwards are still producing some fish, but the size hasn't been close to the caliber of previous weeks. Getting away from the crowds is still a key. Most of the fish taken this last week were caught in deeper water. With 32 to 45 feet of water being the most productive depth. The deep water Islands and saddle areas have been producing the most fish. A shiner minnow on a tip-up has been a tough combination to beat.
The Jaycee's Ice tourney was a great time once again. I spent it with the Fier Boys. I'd like to say that we won the truck. But it didn't happen. Oh well, there's always next year. I hope that everyone out there had a great time. And if you missed it, I hope you plan on making the trip next year. Hats off to all those people that worked so hard to pull it off. It was a great contest!!
P.S. I think I hear those big Red Lake crappies calling to me. I might just have to seek up there this next week.
Take care until next week!
Susan I do not have your e-mail? Matt we are fishing out of waskish. Jeremy, Highberg here,
Fishing has really slowed down as far as evening bite, try charlotte but make it early in the morning, their hitting around 3:00 to 5:00 A.M. Besserude caught 26 and his cousin caught more than that, theirs enough to drive out now, 21 inches. If that fails, you might have to make a trip to rush lake, its been pretty hot for eyes and crappies. Good Luck

Went up to LOW 1-17-03, have house by Twin Island, caught 80 or so fish, about 25 keepers. We were in about 32 feet of water. Heard they are really getting some nice fish on Arnesons Reef out from Gull Rock. But at Twin Island out Deep its lots of action!

is anyone fishing out there fished it last year and did ok wandering if the crappie bite is on there yet
This is for Kev heading to Arnesons. Been going for ten years, you'll never find a better resort for getting you on fish. If you show them you know what you're doing they will try to keep you in fish. Danny and Albert are probably the two best guides or drivers. Dad and friends will be up there this weekend. Good luck.
I'm looking for numbers of resorts renting out houses. Heading up Feb 7-9
Cookie. You seem to know your Sh----- I'm coming up Feb 7-9 with 2 other guys. I need a guy with houses for rent that knows what their doing. Any numbers?

I will be fishing the south end of Mille lacs this Friday and Saturday. I will certainly report how well we do. I talked with a couple people that fished this past weekend and it appears the best time has been really early. (2:00 am-6:00am). They also mentioned that their set lines with shiners caught all the fish. I will try and give a more detailed report when I return.
