Joe from Watertown: How would you know how good or bad the fishing is on Minnetonka unless you've been fishing it yourself? You are telling everyone else not to fish it, yet you are. You seem quite angry anyone would dare fish this lake (or should I say your lake). I hate to tell you, but ANYONE fishing legally has a right to wet a line in ANY lake or river in the state. If you want the fishing to improve, why don't you take your own advise and stop fishing for the next few years!

My folks are going to be visiting with me here in the Cities over Memorial Day weekend. I want to rent a pontoon boat on Lake Minnetonka. Does anyone know of a marina that rents them?

Thanks!

Tom

Minnetonka Crappies are child's play! Not even worth fishing for!!If people would realize that and not fish them for awhile then maybe they will grow! Fools.

John from Albertville: Just wondering how deep you were fishing. I tried Minnetonka Sunday and didn't do too well. Caught a couple, but the shallow bays weren't producing well. We tried in about 7 feet of water in the weeds on the main part of the lake and caught a couple right away and then nothing. I am taking my nephew this weekend and am hoping for better fishing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yesterday day me and some friends went out to tonka bay and caught quite a bit of crappies. We released the smaller ones back and kept the ones a pound and a half and up. Caught our limit of 60 between all of us. We were using a small green/yellow jig with red eyes painted on. Worked really good.

Forest lake is a good place to go fishing but if you want another place like that on the lake try going to Peavy lake off of Browns bay. It is kinda hard to see you just have to go along the north side of the bay and you should see it. I have had much luck in there the past few seasons fishing for croppy later in the spring.

South east side of Big Island in 25-30 feet of water. Went out on saturday, caught 5 walleyes, all 12"-19"! fish between big island and the small island to the south of it. only fish from 3pm to 7pm. Nothing but northerns past 7pm. If you want some fun for the kids, fish same spot from 6am to 12(Noon), can't keep perch of the hook, NOT KIDDING, all very small though.

I was out on Tonka on Sunday(22nd)just to check out the ice and locate some points. I went in from the west of Browns bay and the ice was 6 to 7 inches across most of the bay. There is a large crack with open water running from Spirit Island to just east of Big Island. The snow was blowing and covering it up. It was at least 4 ft wide, so do not snowmobile or 4 wheel in this area. Be sure to travel in pairs and bring a rope if your going out. We need another week of below zero weather to make it safe. Good luck fishing.

The fishing on tonka' this last week has picked up a lot. Northerns and bass are hitting size 5-6 Mepps spinners in rainbow trout patterns, off the weed edges in about 12-17 feet of water. Early morning (3-6am) topwater action for largemouth has been hot. Pulling buzzbaits through some of the emerged vegetation on dropoffs have been the most productive. Best sport has been around the new bridge at grays bay. Daytime (12pm-5pm)when the fishing gets slow, i have found that the largemouth are clinging tight to docks and piers. I've been fairly successful in pulling them out with a 3/8-1/2 ounce jig and pig. Make sure you get them as close as possible and as far under the docks as you can.
