It has been awhile sence I have been up there, say about two weeks. I was just wondering what's happening up there and is there any fish near the culvarts or coves. Are there any docks in yet?

I fished Maple Lake about two weeks ago( when the ice was off) and totally took the panfish right out of the water. I was fishing near the bay on the south side. The crappies were even bighting a little but I think you should wait awhile or fish deeper water. I also fished near the culvert but don't hang around in that bay where everyone goes, just fish left of it way back into the shallows. I garantee you will catch a panfish and the water is probably warmed up by now, so good luck. just a tip from me to you by the Fishmaster K

when you fish you will notice you either catch small fish or large crappies. please release the large ones to help the lake recover from the winter kill of crappies from the winter of 2001. all of you know that this winter was not that good. take what you can eat and throw back the larger ones. there are plenty of smaller ones to keep and it will help the lake recover faster.

FISHED THE CULVERT ON SOUTH SIDE OF LAKE. AND ONLY CAUGHT TWO CRAPPIES AND THREE LARGE MOUTH BASS. BUT THERE WERE TWO GUYS ACROSS FROM ME WHO WERE DOING PRETTY GOOD. LOTS OF WEEDS FLOATING ON TOP THAT YOU HAVE TO FISH THRU. BUT I THINK THE WATER TEMP JUST IS NOT WARM ENOUGH TO BRING WHAT IS LEFT OF THE CRAPPIES INTO THE SHALLOWS. I FISHED WITH MINNOWS AND SOFT PLASTICS. (COLORS WHERE YELLOW AND PEARL,GREEN CHART. AND WHITE.)

Stopped at Maple off the culverts yesterday. Crappies were slow but Einer told me that the sunnies are biting on Clear Lake. Smoked about half a pack of cigarillo's. Went home to fix the furnace at three.

Is the ice coming off maple yet or atleast the culverts. If not when do you think a person can fish for crappies in the small bays like lakeview, and the culverts.

fished breezy point 3-3 7:00-9:30 2 bullheads and 3 crappies the crappies were 10-11" glowing red seemed to be the best. marked a few other fish but no takers. There is one main class of crappies left in maple right now so fishing will be slow. 3 years ago we had a lot of dead crappies and bluegills that were a half dollar size from winterkill this is verified by my underwater camera. the areators are very important to this lake and we need to try and be sportsmans and limit our crappie take in the spring. the 5 gallon buckets in the spring i hope will be a thing that we dont aim for. This boom and bust of age classes is typical of this type of lake. we can limit the extremes of this by taking what you can eat and fishing for fun by releasing a few short of the limit. Remember 10 years ago how the crappies were small we will be going thru that again for 3 years so be ready. Till then enjoy the 6-8 nice crappies and dont expect the limits.

August of 1967 I fished somewhere in Minnesota, I thought was called Maple Lake at Alexandria. Everyone else is deseased that I was with. I remember my in-laws Ann & Bill Turnbeaugh rented at cabin there almost everyear, also a school teacher from Roxana, Il. and her name was Florence Dinwiddie also desceased. I was only there that one time but it was the most enjoyable fishing trip I have ever taken and would love to try and repeat it. I know things have changed throught the years but if any one there could help me with such a wonderful memory I would appreciate there help. Before I retire to the big sky I would love another fishing experience like that one. I was pulling 2 crappie at a time on my crappie rig. I wasn't using any fancy baits or lures just worms in an old john boat with trolling motor. Great!!! My e-mail address is andy1942@msn.com please send mail if you know where I am talking about.

Went fishing on Sat off Breezy Pt. with Ev "darn it got off" and Bruce "is the ice thick enough?". Catching fish was very slow, marked many fish but very few takers. Ev and Bruce each picked up one nice Crappie each while I am waiting until the fishing heats ups and a guy can catch more than one at a setting. Still a very nice day to be out on the ice, fry up some fish and sit back and enjoy the outdoors.

Fished Breezy Saturday from 4 until 7pm. The kid and I caught 2-four inch perch, a three-quarter pound walleye and a decent crappie. It was a very slow three hours with very little action. We marked a few fish, but as always, we took very little home. Thank God I don't have to feed my family on my fish catch- it would definitely be a famine.

Fished Breezy Sat. afternoon/evening I got the usual-sore buttox and a wet arm-the other guys a few crappies and one walleye. Ice seemed pretty decent. We walked down from the road by one of the Resorts that was closed for the season, when we got back from walking off the ice there was a note on two of the three rigs that were parked there asking us to not walk/park by there again because they were "closed for the season". Makes a person feel pretty welcomed with those types of messages. I'm sure the county sherrif would just love to answer that call and cite some people walking off the lake in the dark for trespasing through a closed for the season boat launch area.

Hey Tully, There's enough ice on Maple by the Polk County Park for fishing. It varies anywhere between 3-5 inches as of last weekend, but you can probably add another 1 to 2 inches for this weekend. Not much action to report, but I was only out for an hour and I suspect it will pick up soon. Hope this helps.

Hey foks, it's the fishing opener!!!!! Unfortunatly the fish do not know that. The weather was a real misshap for Maple Lake. Our boat got one perch, :-( We spoke to about 20 others that did not even get that. The water temp was about 46 degrees. That is just still too cold. I only know of about 12 walleyes caught on Maple and that was before 5:00 am. Lets hope the weather warms up soon.

See you all on the water.

Well I finally got my boat in the water. Decided to check out some Crappie action on what turned out to be the only nice six hours of the past couple of weeks.

The first spot we tried we didn't get as much as a bite. Some shore fishermen were near a culvert and killing the fish but we had no go even within 20 yards of them.

The second spot we found was a pretty popular spot. Both boats and shore fishermen seemed to be doing well. We caught a nice meal of Crappies in about two hours fishing in 3 feet of water. We had the best luck with a 1/16th ounce jig tipped with a minnow and a slip bobber. The best bite came keeping the lure about 18" from the surface.
