Getting excited to come up this weekend. Are there any colors or style of jig they bite better on. Any certain depths. Are they suspending or hoding tighter to bottom. Is there a morning bite going on and what kind of minnows work best. Any info that anyone can suggest would be much appreciated. Thanks

We have 15 guys heading up this Friday for a weekend of fishing and drinking through Karpen's. It sounds like things are picking up some, we're hoping for eyes but pout are a close #2. Any one go through Karpen's? Good/ bad? Sounds like edges of the flats are where it's at. Any tips on depths, locations would be grat. I'll report when we get back on how we do.

coming to upper red this weekend starting friday. Is the bite mostly in the evening so we could run up to the lake of the woods for the day and till about three and still get in some quality time on url ? Also is there anywhere we could keep our days catch of walleye so we dont have to go all the way back to keillior with the walleye? This would save us at least an hour. thanks.

Nottage Lake is where you want to be! Why, Big Crappies, 12+ Fish by the Train tracks its the deepest part of the lake. You can find a depth map on the DNR web site. Getting on to the lake is tough but it keeps the fishing pressure LOW. Glow jigs @ dark it goes nuts. Enjoy the fishing, I have!

WE RENTED A 16 HOLE SHACK FROM DICKIES ON THE 24,25 FISHED FOR 48 HOURS, HAD NO LUCK WITH THE WALLEYES. WE HAD A CAMERA SAW A FEW PERCH BUT NO EYES. I DON'T THINK DICKIES SHACKS ARE IN A GOOD PLACE. WE FISH ABOUT 1/2 MILE OFF OF SHORE. WOULDN'T RECOMMEND RENTING FROM DICKIES VERY DISAPOINTED WITH THE FISHING, BUT HAD A GREAT TIME ANYWAYS.

I don't know if there really is any hot spots. If you ask at the resort or bait shop they will usally tell you were people are catching fish. We went out about five miles where there was a group of houses and set up about 150 yards from them. Thats the best advice i can give you. I was set up about 50 feet from another guy he caught 17 and I caught 5. I you don't find them don't be afriad to move.

Went out on Bemidji last week Thursday. Caught 6 nice jumbo perch and one nice 4lb Northern. The bite is between 0600 and 0800 and the afternoon bite picks up somewhat around 1200-1400. Not sure about the night bite. Was fishing off the college point in between Library park. Been out a few times and have only caught fish on shiners.

fishing report- 5 of us were up on saturday and are totals were 44 crapies and one snake about 5 pounds. We caught fish on and off all afternoon, but the best bite was after dark for a few of use. One guy caught 17 and i was only 50 feet from him and i only caught 5. Go figure.Small hooks and small minnows seemed to do the trick.

Darcy,

Here is our fishing report out of Mcquoids. We fished all day friday with 1 eal pout andf one fish getting of (walleye). Saturday turned out to be a little better. We caught 2 eyes (24,25 inches) and missed four others (alcohol related). We had an underwater camera on saturday, in which we saw hundreds of small perch, with a couple jumbo's mixed in and 2 walleyes. The house itself was excellent. Mcquoids has wonderful homes and do their best to put you on fish. We did not leave the home, in which I know we may have been able to catch a few more fish, if we have. All in all, we had a great time and caught a couple of really nice walleyes.

Just got back from a good week of fishing. From the imformation I got from this site, we started out at Adrians. What great people who run this place. They told us where to go and put us on fish. Caught alot big and small. We also tried Zipple. Caught alot there also. Here's the big tip, go deep and gold, gold, gold and more gold. Good luck and have fun. We did.

We were up to red fishing yesterday and had a good day. We caught 10 big slabs. Our smallest one was 13 inches and we had four over 14 inches long. We caught 8 nice walleyes one being 5 pounds, it was frustrating releasing such nice fish. My buddy also landed a 14 pound northern, that was 36 inches long on his ultra lite pole with 6lb test. It was crazy. We also caught two five pound northerns. Overall it was a good day. Most the crappies bit between 5:30 and 8:00. Thanks cookie for the advice we had alot of fun and we look at your fishing reports everyday.

Brian, If I were a guide what would I charge? I would feel bad if they didnt catch fish, I sure could use the cash after warren was here he ate all my venison but he sure did a nice job cooking it. I wish I could cook like him or maybe it was so good because we were in the middle of a frozen lake ,in a fish house ,with a wind chill of 20 below , watching Cool Hand Luke, having a cocktail. Will give full report tomorrow of how everyones done. PS.Warren I love you your brother COOKIE

Nice to see you made it home. Sorry you were 5 short of your limit. Maybe next time you can land your own fish, it takes practice. Moved small house by petes got one fish, guys in cabin got 32 20 yards from us. Went to check on couples in sleeper, they were pounding them, unreal they had a bucket full,I seen one that was 14 1/2 inches long. They were having a blast, doesnt make sense 12 fish one night a bucket full the next. Will be leaving house there untell I get skunked 3 times.

We are heading to scenic bay resort on the 2nd for a couple of days and are wondering if anyone has had any luck on that part of the lake? If so what depth? and what time? We like to fish with tip-ups for walleye and northern here, but understand we cant use plain treble hooks in Minn. How are you guys dressing up the trebs over there? and are you using shiners, fatheads, suckers or?? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!

Fished Eddy's Thursday, 01/23/03. Fished from 8 am to 6 pm. Sloooww! Aqua view showed nothing all day but very small Perch that terror-ized my minnows, but wouldn't bite. Caught a 7.5 lb. Northern Pike. The Nort's seemed to be cruising right under the ice 9 to 10 ft. from the top. Nothing against Eddy's but they just don't have their houses over any structures. Map shows sand and small rocks. Aqua view confirms it. It's like a desert down there. I think Eddy's will be much better this Spring when the Walleye start to spawn and come into the shallows. Not a good hard water spot in my humble opinion. East side still seems to be the better Walleye producer. All you guys asking about Liberty, McQuoids and Hunter's Point...find the rocks and flats, move frequently and you should catch fish. Going up to Chisholm to try out Sturgeon and Side Lakes for Walleye and Crappie. Should be interesting. Has anybody ice fished for Rainbow Trout? I know a lake up north I'd like to try but not sure what to use. <0}))))><

I'm going to be taking a fishing trip to L.O.W. on March 7th-10th with 4-6 people. I was wondering where the fish usually are hitting that time of the year and where I can rent a sleeper in some good water. I went last year in March and had a pretty good trip but was put mainly on perch and some small saugers. I was hoping to fish walleye/sauger mainly and an occasional perch would be nice. It will be my dad's and brother's first time to L.O.W. so I really want to make it a good trip. Obviously the fishing isn't always great, but I'm just curious what resorts are reliable and consistent in putting customers on the fish. If you are a resort owner, please reply to my e-mail address above. Otherwise any info. is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Word on Twin Pines: Went there last year, had a blast. The shack we rented was a 8-man, nice warm shack, and caught quite a few walleyes. I don't think the bite is as hot yet this year from what I've heard, and I haven't seen other resort's shacks, it was worth it though. Going back second weekend in Feb hope it picks up.
