Made the rounds last night and most of the guys were catching fish. Scott,Mike ,Bob, Brad and Bob were getting fish and had two buckets and were still catching them when we left at 10 pm. Jerry and his buddy had a dozon and were 75feet from Scott. West and his bunch had a dozon and were 100 yards from Scott. Darrin and his buddy had 15 or so and were 100 yards from Scott to the west.Darrin lost his rod to a pike yesterday.About 9 o'clock last night he caught a pike? and he got his lure and rod back. How many times does that happen. Chris and Gordy had and there buddies had 2 buckets and were 100 yards north of Scott. Mitch, Pat and Jerry went out of Hudecs and cleaned up but could not tell me where they went as there guy wants the spot kept secret. Could not find other groups last night so don't no how they did. The Greek was east of Scott 200 yards and got 1 fish he will be moving his house today to the outside of Scott as the fish seem to be moving to the west and north in a zig zag patteren. HAVE A CRAPPIE DAY COOKIE

Drove up to Jacks Twin Bay years ago for a late season perch bite. Had my kids and a few buddies with. Stopped at lodge at 6:30 am, nobody around, knocked on door, waited around-no body comes. We look for a place (mailbox?) to put money, can't find anything. So, we figure we will pay when we get back or he'll come out and find us-FIND US HE DID! While fishing off of his "personal road", we see a plow truck coming down the road at about 50 mph. He drops the blade and turns right at us and stops about 5 feet away, burying our equipment in snow. He procedes to swear at us in front of the kids and goes ballistic. We explained to him that we had stopped to pay and all (and did) and decided never to go there again. One of the guys in the group called the DNR and complained and they said this was not an isolated incident. I have been treated well at Agate Bay and Barnacle Bills.

thanks for the inputAany.I went by there today and the fishing area looks right about where you said it is.It looks kinda small so 1 pole kinda maks sense and wouldbe better for everyone.I can just imagine lines getting tangled w/a running pike.

I don't feel that the lead sinker ban is a necessity at this point, however, I do support using a non-toxic alternative. If I remember correctly, this bill was introduced by a legislator from Duluth who claimed that the motivation behind the legislation was to protect our loon population. I believe the statement was made that the loon population was in jeopardy due to lead poisoning. Based on that statement, I can't help but feel that there is a hidden adjenda here. Loons do not feed on the bottom of lakes. They eat fish, and small ones at that. A loon would have to ingest the lead from the fish it eats or from an anglers bait. While lead poisoning in loons is a possibility, and may cause the demise of a number of birds, I do not feel that legislating a change in the fishing regulations is necessary. This is a DNR issue not a legislative one. (The DNR reports that the loon population is healthy and is increasing.) To legislate such a sweeping change in the fishing industry based on false assumptions would be wrong!

THe crappies are relating to the soft bottom, if you fish the sand you catch walleyes. Ole cleaned up last night and went home . Was in a good spot? Moved the sleeper again and have portables poping up all over . Hope they all catch fish. Have a ton of guys up so reports will be flowing trying to keep track of all these guys is a handfull, but will do the bestI can.Gordy got 6 last night, he was 100 yards away from Ole so if your not getting fish you need to move. Any glow jig works well the bite is after dark unless your one of the lucky ones getting them during the day. COOKIE

A ban on lead sinkers seems to be stretch. How many lead sinkers have you or your fathers lost in a lifetime? I'll bet most fishermen would say very few if any at all. I've only lost a couple in my lifetime and that was only when my line broke and I lost the lure as well. So if you start seeing loons swimming around with lures, lead sinkers, and a bunch of line hanging down from their beaks then we may have a problem, but I don't think that's the case. There is a lot of lead on the bottom of our lakes due to many years of duck hunting with lead shot (which is now illegal to use), and that lead will probably remain there forever. So if they ban lead sinkers and 5 years down the road a loon gets lead poisoning, who or what will they blame next? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for preserving our natural resources and protecting our heritage of hunting & fishing, but there are other things within our MN wildlife & habitat that needs our attention before spending time and money on banning lead sinkers.

Crosslake is located about 23 miles north of Brainerd and the area sports some of the best fishing in Mn and their are many smaller lakes in the area with some smaller rivers (streams)

My nephew and I fished Red on 2/17-2/19 and had a blast. We were 5.5 mi. out from Hudec's in 14 ft. (big surprise). The average size of the fish is unbelieveable!! We didn't experience any preference between waxies or minnows or jig style/color. When they came through, they bit!! One thing I would like to elaborate on that I have seen in some of the postings is to pick up your trash and other's if you come across it. Also, we had a guy in a conversion van pulling a house drive within 3 ft. of us and set up 10 yards away. Of course he got stuck and continued to annoy us revving his engine for about a half-an-hour. It's truly a huge lake; give people enough room.

I would like people to comment on the following:

1. Does bottom composition make a difference - hard vs soft?

2. Do the crappies move closer to shore as it gets closer to Spring (March) or are they still spread out all over?

Thanks for the comments

Lake_Bemidji

Fished bemidji mon-weds, and did ok on perch. Caught a few off of cameron and the university, but really got into em north of cameron around the grass point. on the north side of the droppoff in 35 ft of water. buckshot spoons or small jigs w/waxies. Yellow seemed to be the magic color. size was a little smaller than past years, with only a few over 10 inches. Caught over 100 fish tuesday, with 25-30 being small walleyes(6-13 inches). Gonna be some great walleye fishing in a couple of years.
