Good morning! It's fall!! It's unreal
how fast it happens. I wait for this time of year to come, but it
seems that when it does finally get here I can already feel winter
knocking at the door. Pretty scary!!
So let's forget about that for now and
talk fish. I've been out Sat. and Monday of this week and we fished
walleyes and muskies. We had a good day on Sat.. We caught some nice
walleyes on the south end of Gull Lake. The biggest was a 26 incher
caught by yours truely. On Monday, the trip started out on a sad
note. We pulled into the access on the north end of Mille Lacs and
the ambulance was on the ramp with a man that had a heart attack
after catching a 40 inch northern. He died instantly. He was 52!!
For those of you that have caught big fish you know that it is a
rush, and I guess you never know when it is your time. We did end up
getting on the water after a while. And after casting and trolling
for a few hours we only had one hit and didn't hook-up. That's the
way it goes when you are after the monster of the sea. But, after
what we experienced at the landing, I think both of us were just happy
to be able to say we had another day on the water.
October is just around the corner, and
most of you know by know that it is my favorite month. The only
problem is that there are only 31 days. If you want to catch fish,
fish in October. It doesn't matter where you go, the fish are going
to be feeding!! The key is to locate "mobs" of baitfish, and you will
find the predators!!
Tip of the week: when you are jigging in
deep water, make sure you are able to get a good hook-set. The
best way to do this is by using a rod on the stiffer side, and maybe
trying some of the low or no stretch lines out there!!

It's amazing that it has already been a
year! Let's just pray that people can get their acts together and
stop these senseless acts.
Fishing has been GOOD! Sure, there are a
few slow days mixed in here and there but overall the bite has been
good. Gull, Whitefish and Pelican have all been producing numbers of
walleyes. Since I am so close to Gull I spend alot of time out there
and that is where I've been the past couple of weeks. We have been
catching our fish on redtail chubs and lindy rigs. The fish are
scattered all over the lake and at all different depths. If you spend
any amount of time looking for walleyes you are going to find some.
The jig bite hasn't happened for me yet! But I'm patiently waiting!!
It sounds like the weather is going to turn a little more fall like
this weekend, so this might be the start of the cold water period (my
favorite time to be on the water). If you are planning on coming up
to the brainerd area this weekend, you might want to search out a lake
other than Gull! There will be a couple of different tournaments
going on and also some larger groups that are being guided. So that
means alot of fishing pressure (but do what you gotta do)!
Tip of the week: When you catch a big
walleye take a quick picture or two and get it back where it belongs!
Who knows, you might catch it again when it's a REAL trophy.

Hello! Summer is over! At least it seems
that way up here. In a way it's sad, but on the other hand it's a
relief! Peace and quiet is nice, but the number of guide trips will
slow down a bit now. If it were up to me I would like to be guiding
everyday from here to freeze up! I just wish people knew that this is
the time they need to get away and come fish!! It will not only help
me out, but I know they might have some of the best walleye fishing of
their lives!! So if it sounds like I could use a few trips you're
right!!
The overall fishing action has been good!
We have been staying on Gull and catching our fish from 14-28 feet on
redtails and Lindys. The fish have been running pretty nice with the
average size being right around 16 inches. The north end of the lake
has been good, but I'm sure the south end is going also.
Round is the other lake around town that
has been hot! The fish have been coming out of 14-20 feet and are
also being caught on redtails. For those of you that haven't fished
it, there are humps all over and you should have no problem finding
fish.
Bass and northerns continue to bite in the
area and I don't have any reports on the musky bite.
I hope this doesn't shock anyone, but I'm
starting to plan for the ice season! And I want to know if anyone you
know is wanting to get rid of or wants to sell their ice houses. I'm
looking to add a few more to my fleet (sleepers preferably). How
about this, what if I offered some kind of time share for ice houses?
Like maybe have people by a week, and this would help me afford a
couple of nice sleepers. Let me know your thoughts please.
Tip of the week: Change your line for the
upcoming season! I would suggest going with 8 pound trilene xt
green. As for your leader material try the new berkley sensation.

Fishing remains very good! I just got off
the water a couple of hours ago and it was good. We fished Gull
tonight and Whitefish this morning. We caught a bunch of walleyes on
Gull using redtail chubs in 13-17 feet. And this morning we caught a
mixed bag on Whitefish (northerns, bass, and walleyes) the fish were
in 16-20 feet and we caught them on redtails also. The biggest fish
of the week has been a 31 inch walleye caught by Scott of Woodbury.
It's been a good year for big walleyes! We have caught alot of 27 and
28 inchers, and a 30, 31 and a 32!! Going for 33 next!!
For those of you that have been wondering
if Mille Lacs is still hot, the answer is not as hot. We were over
there last Friday, and had a good day. We fished muskies on the north
end in the morning and fished walleyes foe a couple of hours after
lunch. We saw a giant musky in the morning and a couple of others and
had one on and lost it. We also caught a 12 pound northern. We also
got into a nice school of walleyes in the shallows. We caught them on
lindy rigs and redtails.
For those of you that don't know, this is
the time of year that most fish become very active. They start
sensing the change and realize it's time to start loading up on the
remaining baitfish. So let me tell you it's time to get your boat out
there!!

Name: sven Gull_Lakedoes anyone fish big wolf lake? heading up there after being gone for many years. Wondering if its still good for pike and walleye.
They're biting!! Everything!! I would
say that this starts the best fishing of the year. We have fished
Whitefish and Gull over the past few days, and the action has been
good. Gull has been better than Whitefish, but we did catch some
walleyes and northerns on Upper Whitefish on Monday. The walleye
action on Gull remains steady. We are catching them in 14-18 feet
using redtail chubs and lindy rigs. The biggest of the week was a 27
incher caught on a redtail in 18 feet (John from Cannon Falls was the
skillfull one).
The bass are biting very well also. And
so are the northerns! And believe it or not, we caught some huge
sunnies on Whitefish using rainbow chubs. I have never seen that
before (I'm thinking they were pretty hungry).
The musky activity has been pretty
decent. I haven't been out, but a friend that has been working on
them told me he has had steady action (northerns too). I'll be over
there on Mille Lacs Friday so hopefully they will be raring to go.
Tip of the week: Make sure your bait is
lively!! It will put alot more fish in the boat. Buy twice as many
minnows as you need because a fresh minnow is the key to catching!!
p.s. It's a Full Moon can't you feel it?

Hi! What's up with this flu stuff going
around in the summer? I'm going to try and tough it out tonight as
I have a guide trip at 4:00 (we'll see). Then of course there's the
weather that isn't looking to good either. Whatever the case, the
fish have been biting pretty well!
Gull has been producing walleyes in
14-23 feet using redtail or creek chubs. Gull has also been
producing alot of bass and a few northerns (pike to some of you).
We haven't caught any big fish as of late, but the walleyes are
"good eaters".
Musky action is still very good with
Leech and Mille Lacs topping the action list. I haven't been out
since last week, but I'm raring to go.
Other lakes that are good right now
include North Long (bass and northerns), Hubert (bass and northerns),
Pelican (night time walleyes) and also Round (bass)!
Lakes that are cold include Whitefish
(most of the season) maybe it willl be hot this fall.
I'll be on the water alot in the
upcoming days, so I'll get you a report the middle of next week!
Tip of the week: Try top water baits
for both bass and musky!!

Hi everyone! Trips have been few and far
between for me the past two weeks. But I'm sure I have been out more
than some of you readers so I'll let you know what I know. My last
outing was Saturday and we fished walleyes on Gull. Because of the
nasty weather we only got an hour and a half in. We did catch a
couple of walleyes and a nice largemouth. Doug Voiers of Ohio caught
one of the walleyes and it was a 27 incher. We netted it just as a
big lightning bolt came down in Wilson Bay. So needless to say the
trip was over (well kinda).
Bass and northerns are also biting. Bass
maybe a little better than northerns, but the action has been good.
For bass cast a rubber worm on the deep weed edge and for northerns
try a spinner rig with a sucker minnow or a chub. All the fish we are
catching are coming from 14 to 18 feet.
Musky action has heated up also. I
haven't been out for awhile, but I have had valid reports. For the
monsters try Leech, Mille Lacs, Bemidji and the Mississippi river.
For numbers try the longville area lakes.
Weekly Special: If you call and book a
guide trip for August, September, October or November and mention you
saw this special, I will give you one night at no cost in a heated
fishhouse on Gull this winter.

Name: Gary & Ken Gull_LakeFished Mille Lacs Lake last week of June. Caught 118 fish (15 Northern Pike). Mostly walleyes in the 20-26 inch range. Slot limit of 14-16 inch range is a real killer if you want some fish to keep for the table.
