They were content to stay in the 1 house even though they had access to 21 other holes. Last year we were fishing 200 yards past the cribs out of Benz-o-matic. Just ask the owner and they'll tell you. Good luck! Name: Tom Upper_Red_LakeMost of you are correct in saying that there is no magic spot and there is no guarantee that you are going to limit out either. you can go out of pretty much any landing and with some luck you will find crappies. The bite is inconsistent right now for good reason. It will get better but that does not mean paydirt everytime and that is not the intent. I have fished upper Red for crappies for the last 4 years and have had many good days and some bad ones. It's all in the sport. Sounds like soe people may be dissapointed if they don't hammer 15 slabs in an hour. Let mother nature and some good luck take care of you! Try not to have too many expectations when you plan your next trip. Listen to the locals who are posting here because they know what they are talking about. Cookie is the best reference we got on this site because he literally lives on top of upper Red. Yes you can drive full size trucks out now. And there are websites to find house rentals up there. Unfortunately we cannot post them here. Get on the web and be creative. Good luck if you go to Red, but don't expect limits everytime. Peace! We had six people and we cought one limit in two nights.(crappies only). We also cought five or six nice notherns. Do what the pro's do and drill holes until you find them. Vexilar's and Aquaviews are great tools for finding the slabs everyone wants. If these people don't realize that fish move, then they don't know what they are doing anyway. I have gone up there and fished within 10 yards of friends(I know you'll see this pigpen) and watched them catch fish after fish using the same jigs etc. while we sat and caught very few. For those of you that can move around in the later day and early evening ,that is the key. If you don't catch or see anything after 10 or 15 minutes, move. For those of us who bring up sleepers or are too lazy to work for them, pick a spot and hope you get lucky enough to be over some crappies. It's that simple. There's no rime or reason to it. One day they may be at a spot and the next day they may not be (and even if they are it doesn't mean they going to cooperate). My Dad and I were there last Sat. Caught 4 nice slabs at dusk, had some more that came through after dark but couldn't get them to snap. Did manage to get a nice 40" Northern on Sun. Morning before we left. Honest reports are always welcome. But, just like anything on the web, there is no valid way to confirm any report. If folks would just relax a little and get to know one another...folks would begin to be able to read between the lines....and they would realize who is telling the truth and who is just 'trolling' for a response. Perhaps over the next few days I will put up a forum for fishing discussion where we all can get to know one another a little better... If a report is fraudulent, it is simply worthless and very much unwelcome on this site. It is my personal opinion the crappie count on some of these reports just don't add up.
