Jared, they say there is no structure on red lake it is a big bowl. Last year they did real well by the pressure ridge,is this upside down structure, is rough ice structure?don't no, the bottom of the lake looks like the moon to me is this suttle structure? Is there a transition zone? Good luck COOKIE

COOKIE, i've been checking the red lake reports everyday for the last 4 weeks. I am coming up to URL sat., sun., mon., with my Father and mother. So far, you and Roger's are both saying to get away from the crowds and to go out quite-a-ways! It seems to me like you got all the tricks to landing on some good schools of fish and I was wondering if there were any last minute tips of advise you might be willing to give me. I am going off to college at the end of this year and this will be one of the last (full) weekends i'm gonna get to spend with my old man ice fishing. Any advice to make it a great weekend would be greatley appreciated.(please email) (j_ice8@hotmail.com) THANK YOU!!!, JARED

Kevin, yes a extension is a good idea, Hillmens has been good for me this year, but anyone could be fine what ever you prefer. The West Wind has a state of the art fish cleaning shack 2 dollars per person can't beat it, thats where I go. I have not been to any of the other resorts cleaning facilities. COOKIE

Cookie, first I would just like to say that I love your sight. I've been reading it for the last couple of weeks since I am coming up on Sunday and Monday the 16th and 17th. I was just wondering a couple things if anybody knows. Do I need an extension? What resort should I be driving out of? And is there a place for us to clean our fish? Since we will be staying in Bemidji. If anyone could help it would be great. E-mail: Guitars@cableone.net.

Thank You Kevin

Waiting for Wild Bill so I thought I would share some personel information with you. A guy name crazysonofsomthing ask some personel questions My father and grandmother were born and raised here.I have been coming to Red lake since I can remember, over 40 years,I have hunted north of here since I was 17 bowhunted here since I was 22. My father died in a car crash on his way home from Waskish when I was 18. My granmother passed away last year in April her name was olga Warren. There is a lake close to her old homstead that is named after my great grandfather. All I'm doing here is trying to carry on here legacy. Here is part of her obituary. Olga always welcomed visitors, her hospitality was second to none. She loved wild animals, especially bears. She had a passion for Red lake walleyes, wild blueberrys, and morel mushrooms. Many fishermen and hunters can attest to her open door and endless supply of Sweddish pancakes. That was the toughest thing i've ever wrote.I love and care more about Red lake then anyone can imagine. The fishing was great tonight see report below.

To all fishermen go out on the lake go out at least 4 miles find a spot, no where close to anyone. If you havn't landed a crappie by 6:30pm move to a new location away from anyone because now it is prime time . If you keep doing this you will find fish. Don't give up the fish were very hungrey tonight as they havn't been feeding for a week, they were attacking my waxies befor they got to the bottom. Please respect others space there is plenty of room for all of us. COOKIE

Just came off the lake the fishing was OUTSTSANDING.UNREAL,and PHENOMENAL.What a gas and what a shame to be fishing by myself. Crazy Bill will be showing up soon and I can here him now. Take me out there. I caught 25 fish, the 15 I kept were all landed by hand line on the electric jig stick, but never hed a chance to turn it on. Burnt the Pizza a little and it had a fishy tast. Lost a large crappie ,had him up the hole backwords and he peeled out the drag turned him around and when he started up the second time he got off,The big one always gets away. They are hungrey they havn't been feeding with all this unstable weather. Can only hope it stays good for all the weekenders coming up. Will watch the sun come up tomorrow from the picture window, what a sunset tonight, breath taking should of had the camera. GOOD LUCK TO my fellow fishermen. COOKIE

Cookie, I met you on the ice a few weekends ago and was thinking about coming back up the 2nd weekend in March. You had mentioned that you had a sleeper house and rented it out. I was just wondering if it is available that weekend?

Good Evening, all. My wife Terry and I will be making our first trip to URL on Feb 28 and Mar 1 weekend, with another couple who has been there once or twice. We are staying in a Hillman's house. Will I need an extension for my auger if I want to drill holes?? Just how thick is the stuff? (Strikemaster Mag 2000, with a normal shank. We love crappie fishing and are hoping for the experience of a lifetime. Enjoy all the great tips I have gotten from this board over the last few months. Thanks, "Cookie", for sharing your insight with us, as well.

Buck thanks for the report, to bad about the weather ,maybe next time the weather will cooperate. Basswacker, Fishing out of Hillmens ,Ray.Dennis.and Ted caught 12 crappies last night.1/2 dozen walleyes they released right away and many perch,so the bite may be picking up. I have had sucess on waxies but they seem to like atleast 3 on the jig with the last one covering the point and barb. Will be wetting a line myself and having dinner in the shack ummm pizza freash out of the oven.
